The overall philosophy of the training programme in the Department of Architecture in the Federal University of Technology, Akure is to produce competent, skilled and versatile graduates capable of understanding the society’s need for shelter and translating this need into an appropriate built environment. The  programme also seeks to ensures to ensure the tecnological capability of the graduates to face a broad spectrum of challenges of the environment for human and other activities especially through self reliance. The products of this programme would be capable of practicing on their own or be engaged in the industry and the public sector.



(a)  UTME Admission

Candidates seeking admission into Architecture must have 5 credit passes at the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) or NECO or GCE O/L or its equivalent at not more than two sittings in the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Physics; and two credits from Technical Drawing, Chemistry, Geography, Fine Arts, Biology/Agric and Economics. Candidates must have at least a pass in Chemistry.

UTME Subjects:

English Language, Mathematics, Physics and any one of Chemistry, Geography or Technical Drawing.


(b)  Direct Entry

Holders of the National Diploma (OND) in Architecture or related disciplines with Upper Credit level pass, from NBTE accredited institutions may be considered for admission for Direct Entry provided they meet the minimum requirements as spelt out in (a) above.

Candidates with the GCE ‘A’ level passes in at least two subjects from Mathematics, Geography and Physics can also be considered for admission provided they meet the conditions in (a) above.



The duration of the programme shall be 5 academic sessions for UTME and 4 academic sessions for Direct Entry students. If a student fails to graduate within the normal 5 academic sessions, he/she will not be allowed to exceed a total of 7 academic sessions.

At the end of the 5-year programme, the student will be required to continue for one and a half sessions to obtain the Master of Technology degree, M. Tech. Architecture to enable them attain full professional status.



For a student to qualify for the award of the B. Tech. degree in Architecture, candidate must have:

(a)  Passed all university or school required courses;

(b)  Passed 200, 300, 400, 500 level Design Studio; and

(c)  Accumulated at least 200 course units for UME admission or 157 course units for Direct Entry admission and attained a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of not less than 1.0; and

(d)  Successfully completed all class works, industrial attachments, seminars and projects.

(e)  Direct Entry students are expected to audit and pass GNS 101, GNS 102, GNS 103, MEE 101 and 102.
